A table arrives in Northamptonshire
Some deliveries get a date in the diary early and keep it. This one, near Naseby in Northamptonshire, was chosen with real care — a Thursday morning, and not just any Thursday. Moving day. The table had been finished and held for them until the keys were theirs, so that on the very first morning in the new house, a Lumbr table would be carried in with the boxes and set down where the eating and the talking would happen for years to come.
The table itself is our Eiffel dining table in the Natural finish — the sculpted base with that lovely sweep to it, a generous solid timber top, nothing stained and nothing disguised. Just timber, worked by hand, finished so the grain does the talking.
We had an audience for this one. Her sister was there, her son, and his cousin — moving day pulls a crowd — and the table was built and assembled right in front of them, in the room, the base set square to the leaded windows and the top lifted on while everyone watched. There is something about a table going together in place that a showroom can never give you: it belongs to the room from the first minute.
The best request of the day: could we photoshop the old pendant light out of the photos? It's next on the list, apparently. We left it in. A new house is allowed to be a work in progress.
And the moment the last check was done, the family took over. Candles appeared, hurricane glasses, woven bases — the table was dressed before we'd finished packing the blankets away. That's the photograph above: not styled by us, but by the people who'll actually sit at it, on their first day in the house.
By the time we left, the boxes were still stacked in the hall and the picture hooks were still bare on the walls — but the heart of the house was in, level, solid, and set for supper. That's rather the point of choosing delivery day this carefully. A table like this isn't really delivered — it moves in with you.
A few days later, this arrived from Lydia:
“Our table was ordered and held until we moved into our new house. Thomas was so accommodating and nothing was a problem. Our beautiful new kitchen table arrived on our move in date and fits perfectly — we are very happy and would highly recommend Lumbr.”

Thank you, Lydia — and welcome home.
